Eco film festival 2024

The University of Auckland proudly presents a compelling new eco film festival taking place on Saturday 9 November 2024 at the Academy Cinemas in Auckland.

This event will spotlight the international UN climate conference. Come and be inspired by the short films and cutting edge documentaries, and join the conversation about filmmaking and climate action. See the programme below with links to book your FREE tickets.

Short films

11.30am, 9 November  (Session 1)

A selection of thought provoking short films by University of Auckland students. Titles include:
2050: A Biomechanical Ocean – an exhibition of the absurd, by Marco de Krester
Circular Fashion, by Isla Allen
The Climate Crisis Within, by Perri Abrhm
Time To Decide, by Zander Colman
Urchin Barrens, by Jarod McTaggart
The student short films are followed by a special segment of the documentary Hot Air (39 min version), Co-directed by Alister Barry and Abi King-Jones.

The Grab

A powerful documentary exploring global attempts to control food and water resources.
Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite.

Milked, and Filmmakers Talk

3.30pm, 9 November (Session 3)

Milked is an award-winning documentary investigating the effects of the dairy industry on Aotearoa New Zealand.

Filmmakers talk: Engage in an insightful discussion about how documentaries can drive the fight against climate change, featuring:
Amy Taylor, Director of Milked
Suzy Amis Cameron, Co-executive Producer of Milked, environmentalist and former actress;
Annie Goldson, multiple award-winning documentary filmmaker and academic;
Mark Harvey, artist and researcher; with
Maria Armoudian from Ngā Ara Whetū – Centre for Climate, Biodiversity & Society.
